Update 5 May 2021 – The Regatta Committee is delighted to confirm that, subject to any changes to COVID-19 regulations, the 2021 Brightlingsea Regatta will take place on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 July.

The committee is working with the host clubs and local organisations to maintain the historic tradition of the town regatta, with the emphasis on waterborne activities and appropriately managed shoreside stalls, hospitality, entertainment and family fun.

Consultation with the special events licensing team at Tendring District Council is ongoing as they too are awaiting confirmation of what, if any regulations, will be in force from 21 June. Unfortunately, the ongoing uncertainties mean that the firework display will not take place this year as an appropriate special events licence cannot be granted in time.

The shoreside activities will include the always popular stalls and those who would like to book a stall space are now invited to do so.

The towns clubs, pubs, restaurants and takeaways will be offering a wide range of hospitality and entertainment and will be able to confirm more details of their offerings once the details of the 21 June easing of restrictions are know.

Dinghy and keelboat races will be run by Brightlingsea Sailing Club (BSC) and Colne Yacht Club (CYC) and there will also be gig racing too. Discussions are currently going on with various organisations and groups regarding other on water and shoreside demonstrations and activities.

New for 2021 will be a Fancy Dress Stand Up Paddle Board Race, which will start and finish at BSC on the Saturday and will take the paddlers around a course between BSC and the Lido.  Funds raised by this event will go the St Helena Hospice.

BSC and CYC will also be offering various try sailing and power boating activities and there will also be try gig rowing sessions too, so if you’ve never been boating before and fancy giving it a go this is your chance.

The Beach Hut Owners Association will hold the traditional Best Dressed Beach Hut Competition, sponsored by Town & Country Residential Estate Agents, and the Rotary Club will be holding their traditional Crabbing and Sandcastle Building competitions from BSC.

Further information about all of the above events and activities will be published shortly so please check back again soon.
