Brightlingsea’s Town Regatta combines a historic tradition with a fabulous fun weekend for all the family. Whether ashore or afloat there’s fun for all ages, from Try Sailing and Powerboating to the brand new St Helena Hospice Craft Your Raft Race, a Gig Racing Championship, yacht and dinghy racing, children’s entertainment, stalls galore, fabulous food, on the water fun activities, live music and much, much more.
Local businesses, pubs, restaurants, cafes and visiting stall holders will have something to please everyone and the Brightlingsea Coastal Rowing Club, University Community Sailing Club, Colne Yacht Club and Brightlingsea Sailing Club will be welcoming visitors throughout the weekend.
The 2018 Brightlingsea Regatta takes place on 2 and 3 June with activities commencing from 10am both days and including the spectacular free firework display on Saturday evening.
The River Colne has a strong tradition of town regattas with Rowhedge and Wivenhoe also holding annual events. The exact start date of Brightlingsea Regatta is not know, but waterside celebrations of the town’s maritime tradition certainly date back to Victorian times, if not earlier.
