About

Brightlingsea’s Town Regatta combines historic tradition with a fun weekend for all the family. Whether ashore or afloat there’s something for all ages, from try sailing and paddle boarding, yacht and dinghy racing, children’s entertainment, stalls, great food, live music and much, much more.

In 2023 the Regatta will also feature Brightlingsea’s much loved Carnival Parade and the traditional Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday. Also on Saturday there will be a full compliment of Try Keelboat and Dinghy Sailing, Gig Rowing and Power Boating opportunities and on Sunday we have the Paddle Board & Kayak Fun Race in aid of St Helena Hospice and a host of dinghy, yacht and gig races. All this alongside the many regular activities and attractions.

Local businesses, pubs, restaurants, cafes and visiting stall holders will have something to please everyone and the Brightlingsea Coastal Rowing Club, University Community Sailing Club, Colne Yacht Club and Brightlingsea Sailing Club will be welcoming visitors throughout the weekend.

The date for the 2023 Brightlingsea Regatta is 22 and 23 July and further details of the programme will be published shortly.

The River Colne has a strong tradition of town regattas with Rowhedge and Wivenhoe also holding annual events.  The exact start date of Brightlingsea Regatta is not know, but waterside celebrations of the town’s maritime tradition certainly date back to Victorian times, if not earlier.

Currently the Regatta is managed by Brightlingsea Regatta Association.
